I hope you are successful in getting things working again. Note that during the install of the new drivers, a restart of the computer is required.
I did have to use the provided slide holder in order to get it to work, and remove the cover over the light in the lid, but all worked (in Home mode - I didn't try others) as it should. Pressing any of the buttons on the V500 Photo Scanner now opens the appropriate part of the scanner app (PDF, print, or email). So I downloaded new driver, Scan Utility and Event Manager from Epson's website.
I just tried the version of Epson Event Manager that worked (somewhat) in Win 7 to no avail. I did the upgrade from Win 7 Pro 64-bit to Win 10 Pro 64-bit within the last week.
